Dubai, United Arab Emirates, November 29, 2023: Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, a globally renowned humanitarian and spiritual leader, is set to deliver a keynote address on December 9, 2023, during COP28 at the Faith Pavilion in Dubai. This significant event, organized in collaboration with the COP28 Presidency, UNEP, and the Muslim Council of Elders, will see the establishment of a strategic multi-partnership with Faith-Based Organizations (FBOs) and civil society partners, hosting an exclusive Pavilion in the Blue Zone. The pavilion aims to bring together individuals of diverse faiths, traditions, and perspectives to collectively address the pressing challenges of climate change.
Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, known for his unwavering commitment to peace, environmental stewardship, meditation, and education, will explore the profound impact that FBOs can have on mobilizing grassroots efforts to advocate for sustainable initiatives and combat climate change. As the founder of the Art of Living Foundation, one of the world’s largest volunteer-driven organizations, and the originator of the Sudarshan Kriya® breathing technique, Gurudev’s presence at COP28 signifies the convergence of spirituality and climate action.
In his upcoming address, Gurudev will emphasize the pivotal role that faith-based organizations play as catalysts for constructive transformation, fostering a collective sense of accountability and dedication to a sustainable future. Having addressed over 1.1 million people at the Art of Living Foundation’s World Culture Festival in Washington DC earlier this year, Gurudev continues to be a notable contributor to the ongoing dialogue on climate change.
Speaking about the intersection of spirituality and climate action, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar stated, “Spirituality transcends borders and unites hearts. As we confront the urgent challenge of climate change, let us recognize that the collective strength of humanity lies not only in technological advancements but also in the transformative power of meditation.” He highlighted meditation as the key to unlocking a better version of ourselves, creating environmentally conscious and actively engaged citizens.
The Art of Living Foundation, founded by Gurudev in 1981, has led a global movement for pro-environment initiatives, inspiring millions to participate in projects such as river rejuvenation, afforestation drives, and promoting renewable energy and sustainable agriculture. The foundation’s impact is evident in milestones such as planting 81 million trees, building 1000 biogas plants, electrifying 758 villages through solar energy, and reviving over 70 dried-up rivers and 1000 depleted lakes.
In addition to his keynote address at COP28, Gurudev will address a free-for-all event on the evening of December 8th at the Al Maktoum Stadium in Dubai. With an expected audience of almost 12000 people, this session aims to reach a broader audience, inviting individuals from all walks of life to gain insights into the transformative power of spiritual wisdom in navigating the challenges of the modern world.
As Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar continues to bridge the gap between inner peace and global harmony, his contributions to climate action underscore the potential for spirituality to drive positive change on a global scale.
