Bangkok — January 2026

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) today announced that Lanta Archipelago National Park (Krabi) has been selected as one of the Green Destinations Top 100 Stories for 2025, underscoring Thailand’s growing leadership in sustainable and community-centred tourism.

The recognition — announced at the Green Destinations Global Conference 2025 in Montpellier, France — highlights the Krabi Prototype initiative, a community-led programme that promotes marine conservation and coastal ecosystem protection. The initiative engages local residents, park authorities and visitors in practical conservation activities designed to preserve marine biodiversity and reduce tourism’s ecological footprint.

Lanta Archipelago’s inclusion reflects a wider shift in destination management away from passive sightseeing toward meaningful visitor participation. By integrating local stewardship with tourism experiences, the project strengthens environmental awareness, safeguards natural resources and supports livelihoods in host communities.

In addition to Lanta Archipelago National Park, nine other Thai destinations were included among the Green Destinations Top 100 Stories for 2025: Royal Park Rajapruek (Chiang Mai); Kui Buri National Park (Prachuap Khiri Khan); Uthai Thani Old Town; Mu Ko Chang National Park (Trat); Tha Chai Community (Si Satchanalai); Chak Ngaew Ancient Chinese Market (Chon Buri); Chiang Khan (Loei); Nan Old Town; and Na Kluea Old Town (Chon Buri). Together, these sites represent Thailand’s diverse natural landscapes, cultural heritage and community-based tourism initiatives.

The selected destinations will benefit from international promotion through the Green Destinations network, amplifying Thailand’s global profile as a country committed to responsible tourism. This recognition aligns with TAT’s broader sustainability strategy, which encourages tourism operators and communities to adopt environmentally responsible practices that preserve cultural identity and support local economies.

Thailand’s presence in the 2025 Green Destinations Top 100 Stories reinforces the country’s ongoing effort to balance visitor experience with long-term environmental stewardship — offering travellers opportunities to explore Thailand with greater purpose and awareness.
