Sheikh Hamdan Unveils Groundbreaking Dubai Quality of Life Strategy
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

In a move to solidify its position as one of the world’s most livable cities, Dubai has launched a comprehensive Quality of Life Strategy aimed at improving the well-being and happiness of its residents and visitors. The strategy, announced by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council, outlines a series of initiatives and targets to be achieved by 2040[1].

Pillars of the Strategy

The Dubai Quality of Life Strategy is built upon four key pillars:

  1. Livability: Enhancing the city’s infrastructure, public spaces, and overall urban environment to create a more comfortable and enjoyable living experience.
  2. Sustainability: Promoting eco-friendly practices, renewable energy, and sustainable development to ensure Dubai’s long-term growth and environmental well-being.
  3. Happiness and Positivity: Fostering a culture of happiness, positivity, and community engagement through various programs and initiatives.
  4. Innovation and Technology: Leveraging cutting-edge technologies and innovative solutions to improve service delivery and enhance the overall quality of life.

Ambitious Targets

The strategy sets ambitious targets to be achieved by 2040, including:

  • Ranking among the top 10 cities in the world for quality of life
  • Becoming the happiest city in the world
  • Achieving a 90% happiness rate among residents and visitors
  • Reducing the city’s carbon footprint by 55%
  • Increasing the use of renewable energy to 75%

Collaboration and Implementation

To ensure the successful implementation of the strategy, Dubai will collaborate with various government entities, private sector organizations, and community stakeholders. The Dubai Quality of Life Council will oversee the strategy’s implementation and monitor progress towards achieving the set targets.

Aligning with Global Initiatives

The Dubai Quality of Life Strategy aligns with the UAE’s broader vision for sustainable development and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By focusing on improving livability, sustainability, and happiness, Dubai aims to contribute to the global efforts towards creating more livable and sustainable cities[5].

Saudi Arabia’s Quality of Life Program

Saudi Arabia has also launched a Quality of Life Program in 2018, which is rapidly developing more “cultural, entertainment, sports, tourism, and urban activities” to make Saudi cities rank “among the world’s top livable cities”[3]. The program focuses on the improvement of quality of life at an individual and family level by providing the necessary sports and entertainment activities, which enhances overall quality of life, creates jobs, diversifies the economy, and advances the position of Saudi cities in the world’s best cities classification[2].

UAE’s Commitment to Sustainable Development

The UAE believes that achieving high-quality outcomes for future generations is crucial for the nation’s success. The UAE Centennial Strategy, launched in September 2017, aims to achieve this by the year 2071. The national dialogue to shape the 2071 strategy has begun and will derive significantly from the UAE’s current National Agenda, using the fulfillment of the SDGs as an important measure of progress in the year 2030[5].

Conclusion

The launch of the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy marks a significant milestone in the city’s journey towards becoming one of the most livable and sustainable cities in the world. By setting ambitious targets and implementing innovative solutions, Dubai is poised to enhance the well-being and happiness of its residents and visitors, while also contributing to the global efforts towards sustainable development.
