UAE’s First Residential In-Building Composting and Sorting Facility Diverts 90% Waste in 90 Days

Dubai, 10 September 2025 – Fakhruddin Properties proudly announces the successful pilot of its pioneering 90:90 Waste Management initiative, the first of its kind in the UAE, achieving a remarkable 90% diversion of building waste from landfills within just 90 days.

Promoting Grassroots Sustainability through Innovative Waste Segregation

This innovative initiative empowers residents to actively participate in sustainability efforts by providing dedicated in-building waste segregation systems. The model fully aligns with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 agenda, Dubai Municipality’s landfill closure plan by 2027, the Circular Economy Policy 2021–2031, and Federal Decree Law No. 11.

Pilot Program at Trafalgar Central Demonstrates Scalability and Success

Launched earlier in 2025 at Trafalgar Central, Dubai International City, the pilot has successfully met its waste reduction targets. As the UAE’s first residential development featuring integrated composting and sorting facilities, it marks a significant milestone in the nation’s sustainability journey.

Milestone Event Featuring Key Stakeholders and Industry Leaders

A special event commemorated this milestone, hosted by Yousuf Fakhruddin, CEO of Fakhruddin Properties. The program featured a keynote address by Mohammed Alrayees, Head of Strategy – Waste Management at Dubai Municipality, alongside a panel discussion moderated by the company’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Dr. Samiullah Khan. The panel included regional sustainability experts sharing insights on the impact of waste management on climate change.

Visionary Statement from Fakhruddin Properties Leadership

Yousuf Fakhruddin stated, “Our 90:90 Waste Management initiative epitomizes collaboration among government, developers, communities, residents, academia, and industry. Its successful deployment in an existing residential setting proves scalability and sets a replicable blueprint for landfill waste reduction nationally and globally. Our next focus is expanding into water recycling innovations, reaffirming our commitment to sustainability.”

Expanding the Initiative Across the Portfolio through Community Engagement

The 90:90 initiative forms part of Fakhruddin Properties’ comprehensive sustainability portfolio. Utilizing an incentive-driven approach, robust community participation, behavioural change strategies, and advanced infrastructure, the model reduces landfill contributions through segregation of wet, dry, electronic waste, and recyclables — all at no additional cost to residents.
