Dubai, UAE – October 2024 – In a landmark collaboration announced at GITEX 2024, the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority (DECCA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Moro Hub, a subsidiary of Digital DEWA, the digital arm of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). This agreement marks a major step forward in both digital innovation and sustainability, reinforcing Dubai’s commitment to clean energy and climate resilience.
The MoU was officially signed by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, and HE Ahmed Mohammed bin Thani, Director General of DECCA, during the high-profile tech gathering at Dubai World Trade Centre, running from 14th to 18th October 2024.
Accelerating Environmental Stewardship Through Digital Excellence
This partnership is designed to bolster DECCA’s digital infrastructure while advancing its mission to preserve biodiversity, expand green spaces, and integrate sustainable practices across key sectors in the emirate. Moro Hub will support DECCA by providing cutting-edge cloud hosting solutions, starting with one of its core applications, with additional migrations planned for the near future.
As part of the agreement, Moro Hub awarded DECCA a Green Certificate, recognizing its commitment to reducing its environmental footprint by leveraging sustainable cloud services through the Moro Cloud platform.
Leadership in Clean Technology and Environmental Innovation
“This collaboration aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to champion sustainable digital transformation,” said HE Saeed Al Tayer.
“Moro Hub’s solutions are a reflection of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, aiming to generate 100% of Dubai’s energy from clean sources by mid-century. Through this MoU, we integrate Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies—such as AI, IoT, and cloud computing—to elevate DECCA’s operations while reducing carbon emissions.”
Empowering Climate-Focused Innovation Through Technology
Echoing the significance of the partnership, HE Ahmed Mohammed bin Thani, Director General of DECCA, shared:
“Our collaboration with Moro Hub is a pivotal milestone in our digital evolution. Their expertise in sustainable cloud computing aligns perfectly with our environmental goals. Receiving the Green Certificate further validates our direction toward building a digitally empowered, environmentally responsible ecosystem. We look forward to leveraging this synergy to deliver smarter services and amplify our environmental impact.”
Delivering Sustainable Cloud Solutions for Long-Term Impact
Moro Hub will conduct a comprehensive assessment of DECCA’s IT operations, proposing scalable, secure, and efficient cloud strategies tailored to the Authority’s evolving needs.
“This partnership goes beyond technology,” said Marwan bin Haidar, Vice Chairman and Group CEO of Digital DEWA.
“It reflects a joint vision to create a future where sustainability and innovation go hand-in-hand. Our role is not only to provide robust IT infrastructure but also to ensure that these solutions contribute to environmental responsibility. The Green Certificate is our commitment to supporting DECCA’s operational goals while helping protect the planet.”
