Dubai Introduces Car-Free Zones: A Bold Step Towards a Pedestrian-Friendly Future
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Dubai is embarking on a transformative journey to enhance urban living by designating four neighborhoods—Al Fahidi, Abu Hail, Al Karama, and Al Quoz Creative Zone—as pedestrian-only areas. This initiative, known as the Super Block project, aims to prioritize pedestrians and cyclists, fostering greener and more accessible community spaces.

Announced by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister, the Super Block initiative aligns with the objectives of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which focuses on infrastructure enhancement and sustainable urban development. The plan seeks to improve residents’ quality of life by creating car-free zones that encourage walking and cycling.

In addition to promoting pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods, the initiative includes the development of a Unified Digital Platform to streamline government services. This platform will integrate specialized applications such as Dubai Now for residents, Invest in Dubai for business ventures, and Visit Dubai for tourism. A significant goal set by the initiative is the complete digitization of all government services by 2027, underscoring Dubai’s commitment to digital innovation and efficient service delivery.

These forward-thinking projects reflect Dubai’s dedication to setting new global standards in community care, infrastructure development, and digital transformation, all aimed at meeting the aspirations of its citizens.

Earlier this week, Dubai announced plans for the world’s tallest wellness retreat. Sheikh Hamdan announced the retreat as part of the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy, adding that it “aims to establish our city as the world’s best place to live”. He added, “This landmark Dhs2 billion development will feature an interactive park and the world’s largest indoor botanical garden, designed to host 1.7 million visitors annually.
