Dubai, UAE – In a bold move to address the growing challenge of water scarcity, the government of Dubai has launched the “Dubai Can” initiative – a comprehensive program aimed at promoting water conservation and sustainable water usage across the emirate.

For example, Borg & Overström, a leading provider of water dispensers, has joined forces with the Dubai Can program. They are supplying high-quality, energy-efficient water stations across the city. “We are proud to be a part of this important initiative,” said the company’s regional manager. Furthermore, this collaboration aligns with our own commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

“Water is a precious and finite resource,” said Sheikh Hamdan. “It is our responsibility to ensure its sustainable management for present and future generations. Therefore, the Dubai Can initiative is a call to action for all residents and businesses to join hands in conserving water and protecting our environment.”

Enabling Access to Free Drinking Water

At the heart of the Dubai Can program is the installation of free drinking water stations across the city. These state-of-the-art water dispensers provide safe, chilled, and filtered drinking water. This encourages residents and visitors to refill their reusable bottles instead of relying on single-use plastic.

“By making free, clean drinking water readily available, we are empowering people to reduce their plastic waste and adopt more sustainable habits,” explained Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality. “This is a crucial step in cultivating a culture of water conservation in Dubai.”

Partnerships and Awareness Campaigns

The Dubai Can initiative involves close collaboration with various stakeholders, including government agencies, private companies, and educational institutions. These partnerships aim to drive awareness, promote behavioral change, and implement innovative water-saving solutions.

Dubai Can: A Pioneering Initiative Driving Water Sustainability in the UAE

Dubai, UAE – In a bold move to address the growing challenge of water scarcity, the government of Dubai has launched the “Dubai Can” initiative. This comprehensive program aims at promoting water conservation and sustainable water usage across the emirate.

Spearheaded by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council, the Dubai Can initiative is a key component of the Dubai Water Sustainability Strategy 2030. This strategy seeks to reduce the city’s water consumption by 30% over the next decade.

“Water is a precious and finite resource,” said Sheikh Hamdan. “It is our responsibility to ensure its sustainable management for present and future generations. The Dubai Can initiative is a call to action for all residents and businesses. We need to join hands in conserving water and protecting our environment.”

Key Components of the Program

At the heart of the Dubai Can program is the installation of free drinking water stations across the city. These state-of-the-art dispensers provide safe, chilled, and filtered water. They encourage residents and visitors to refill their reusable bottles rather than relying on single-use plastic.

In addition to the water stations, the Dubai Can program includes targeted awareness campaigns. These campaigns are designed to educate the public on the importance of water conservation and the benefits of using refillable bottles. Such efforts are crucial for fostering a community-wide movement towards a more sustainable future.

Collaborative Efforts

The Dubai Can initiative involves close collaboration with various stakeholders, including government agencies, private companies, and educational institutions. These partnerships aim to drive awareness. Moreover, they promote behavioral change and focus on implementing innovative water-saving solutions.

Furthermore, this collaboration aligns with our own commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Towards a Water-Secure Future

The Dubai Can initiative is a testament to the UAE’s unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability and its leadership in addressing global challenges. By reducing water waste and promoting efficient usage, the program conserves natural resources and contributes to the overall well-being of the community.

“This is a pivotal moment for Dubai and the UAE as a whole,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). “The Dubai Can initiative is a crucial step towards our goal of becoming a water-secure and carbon-neutral city by 2050.”

As Dubai continues to lead the way in sustainable development, the Dubai Can program serves as a shining example. It demonstrates how innovative, collaborative, and community-driven initiatives can drive meaningful change and secure a brighter, more sustainable future for all.
